Import contacts from a file

Bring subscribers from another tool or a spreadsheet by uploading a CSV file with emails and/or phone numbers.

Updated September 21, 2026 · 1 min read

In this article you will upload a list of contacts and add them as subscribers.

Before you start

  • A CSV file. In Excel or Google Sheets use File → Download → CSV. One contact per row, with a column for email and/or phone.
  • Permission to message these people. Only import contacts who agreed to receive your marketing.

Steps

  1. Open Audience → Import list and upload your CSV.
  2. Map the columns to the appropriate contact fields, including email, phone and name. Review the mapping before continuing.
  3. Confirm the marketing consent information requested by the import flow. Email and SMS permission are separate; a phone number alone does not establish SMS consent.
  4. Review the import details and confirm. Follow any validation messages and correct rows the app flags.
  5. When processing finishes, open Manage contacts and check a few imported records, including their email and SMS subscription status.
Importing a purchased list, or people who never asked to hear from you, leads to spam complaints and can get your sending blocked. See Who you can message.
